The National Health Service provides most health care to most people free of charge, but there are exceptions: prescription charges have existed since 1951 and there are a number of other services for which fees are charged.
The Governments contract with GP’s covers medical services to NHS patients, including the provision of on going medical treatment. In recent years, however, more and more organisations have been involving doctors in a whole range of non-medical work.
The fee will reflect both the doctors’ time to carry out the service outside of clinical hours and the doctors professional opinion. It may also include the cost of nursing, secretarial support, stationery and consumables.
The services shown in the word document below are NOT provided under the NHS contract and the following fees will be charged.
As soon as you have confirmed your pregnancy, please self-refer to your local hospital by clicking on the following the link below.
Some services provided are not covered under our contract with the NHS and therefore attract charges.
Examples include the following:
- Medicals for pre-employment, sports and driving requirements (HGV, PSV etc.)
- Insurance claim forms
- Passport signing
- Prescriptions for taking medication abroad
- Private sick notes
- Vaccination certificates
The fees charged are based on the British Medical Association (BMA) suggested scales and our reception staff will be happy to advise you about them along with appointment availability.
Again, we regularly follow all patients with hypertension to reduce cardiovascular risk.
1st immunisation at 2 months – 5 in 1 vaccination
Tetanus, Diphtheria, Whooping Cough, Polio & Hibacelular perturosis
Make sure your child is free of any infection and fever before the immunisation. Please bring the red book with you.
The doctor carries out CHS checks at 8 weeks. The Health Visitor carries out all others.
Doctors do postnatal checks at 6 weeks following delivery at a Thursday morning clinic. Appointment date and time will be sent to you. If you fail to receive notification of an appointment please telephone the surgery.
Cervical Smear Screening is done either by the doctors and nurse for women aged between 20-64. Normal results will be sent to you by the Health Authority. Abnormal results will be informed to you personally by telephone. The results normally take 4-6 weeks. Please wait for a letter to be sent to you asking for your smear to be done. If smears are done too early the sample will not be processed. If you are unsure please contact the practice nurse who can help.
Please do not book for cervical smear appointments on a Friday or just before going out of the country. If the result is abnormal we will have a problem informing you of the results.
Emergency contraception is available and is discussed in complete confidence. The doctors are happy to provide pre-conceptual and sexual health advice. Termination of Pregnancy is discussed in complete confidence with the doctor.
